My works are appreciated by collectors, gallery owners, art historians, and curators worldwide. They can be found in both private and public collections.
Since 1996, my work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, biennials, and art fairs. It has been exhibited in countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, and the USA, among others.
I have received several awards and prizes for my art.
My life journey
Born in Dessau in 1966 as the third of five children of a model maker and a nurse, my early life was strongly influenced by the GDR regime.
I discovered my love for painting early on . I've always painted, capturing everything that moved me in pictures. It's an inner prompting that I simply follow. Classical music has deeply touched me since early childhood. But I was also interested in technology and science. Then I discovered sports, became a successful amateur boxer , and an officer candidate. I loved my homeland.
As I grew up, I began to reconsider my beliefs more and more. To question politics. I refused military service. I became an enemy of the system . I left East Germany at 18 and went to the West in 1984 .
My professional journey took me through countless positions. From door-to-door salesman to insurance agent, then landscaper, farm worker, and civil engineer. Finally, I became a long-haul truck driver. I lived in Spain, Italy, and France. My journey through life: shaped by forging new paths. Detours. Rarely direct routes.
In 1996 , I finally recognized my true calling and dedicated myself to my greatest passion: art. Since then, I have worked as a freelance artist and continue my life's journey in harmony with my creative self." (atelier-dirk-gross)
